Nurx provides psychiatry and medication management services for mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic disorders, insomnia, PMDD, and more. This service costs $59 for the initial consultation and $69 monthly for ongoing care. It is available to users across 36 states, offering personalized treatment plans based on individual symptoms and health history.
With Nurx, licensed medical providers evaluate your intake assessment to create a personalized treatment plan. However, all mental health providers are family medicine doctors rather than specialized psychiatrists, which can be a limitation. This is legal, but in some ways, you’re trading expertise for convenience. That said, my provider was responsive and evaluated my symptoms thoroughly, demonstrating the platform’s commitment to personalized care.
When it comes to medication, Nurx mental health is limited to prescribing SSRIs, SNRIs, and a few other medications, which might not be sufficient for those with more complex mental health needs. Additionally, the lack of therapy or counseling services means users must seek these services elsewhere.
Nurx recommends a few external resources for therapy, like Talkspace, but plenty of other platforms offer psychiatry, medication management, and therapy all on one platform. It’s something to consider if having everything you need in one place is important to you.
Urgent Care, Hair Loss, Migraines, & More

After an online health assessment and a $65 consultation fee, a licensed Nurx provider prescribes appropriate antibiotics and symptom relief medications, sent to a local pharmacy for pickup. For migraine treatment, Nurx partners with Cove to deliver comprehensive migraine relief services. Cove’s specialized medical providers diagnose and treat migraines, offering home delivery of prescription medications and ongoing care and support.
Nurx also addresses various skin and hair loss concerns with tailored treatments. It offers medicated shampoos for dandruff and customized acne treatments, addressing skin needs with topical and oral options. “When I used Nurx, I was impressed with its ease of use and the convenience of asynchronous texting for appointments, something I’ve also seen from platforms like Hims & Hers and K Health. However, I found certain aspects disappointing. All the mental health providers on Nurx are family medicine doctors, not psychiatrists, which limits their prescribing capabilities.
Ultimately, while Nurx has convenient features and quick doctor responses, its limitations make it less than ideal for those with more complex mental health needs. I would not recommend Nurx to friends and family for most mental health services, although it seems to be a good option for refills on common, preexisting prescriptions like Zoloft, Lexapro, or birth control.”

Nurx was founded in 2015 by Norwegian entrepreneurs Hans Gangeskar and Edvard Engesaeth. Initially recognized as the “Uber for birth control,” Nurx aimed to provide convenient access to prescription medications like birth control pills.1 The company’s innovative approach allowed users as young as 18 to request medications by uploading a photo ID and answering health-related questions, which were then reviewed by licensed prescribers.
Following its merger with Thirty Madison in 2022, Nurx expanded its services beyond contraception to include treatments for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), migraine management, and more recently, mental health medication.2
Over the years, Nurx has faced some controversies. In 2019, former employees came forward saying that the company had violated pharmaceutical regulations by bypassing standard procedures for prescribing and shipping medications. Then, in 2023, Nurx disclosed a data breach involving tracking pixels on its website, which inadvertently shared sensitive user information with third parties like Google and Meta.3,4
In 2024, Talkspace partnered up with Nurx, creating a referral loop. This effectively gave Nurx patients a clear path to therapy and counseling services.5 In January 2025, Thirty Madison announced a strategic shift to focus more narrowly on women’s health and hair loss treatments. As part of this restructuring, Thirty Madison laid off approximately 5% of its workforce, including some leadership positions.6 However, in April 2025, Nurx entered into an integration agreement with Gifthealth, Eli Lilly and Company’s LillyDirect® pharmacy provider. This collaboration aims to streamline access to Zepbound® (tirzepatide), a weight loss medication.7
